All GoldAlmost 100 years ago, Bennie's great granddad landed a job at a relatively new concern in the Western Cape. He took a job as a tomato picker on a farm that made a new sauce that was being sold as "All Gold". Now, Bennie's granddad never thought of being a tomato picker as his dream job, but he liked the name, and was soon inspired by the passion that surrounded the farm. He loved the way everyone rallied around the knowledge that All Gold was the best tomato sauce ever made.
The family's love of tomatoes, and All Gold, skipped two generations until little Bennie was born. His fixation with any soup, sauce or sandwich that contained tomato was unshakeable, and that, coupled with his ability to count really quickly soon landed him a job at the All Gold factory - some say his heritage got him the interview.
He soon discovered exactly what his great granddad meant by the "All Gold good times". Of course, the company and its product range had expanded enormously since his family was last involved - All Gold now made not only their famous sauce, but also soups, canned products, cook-in sauces, pasta sauces, and jams. But the same passion, and the same 36 tomatoes, still gets crammed in to every bottle of All Gold.
And the bottles? They're just the same as when his great granddad was filling them 96 years ago. And so are the good times. We, like Bennie, have a sense that they always will be.
